What is it about?
Bacterial protein toxins cause severe diseases by killing human cells independently from the bacteria. Therefore, a combination of antibiotics and toxin inhibitors is required for therapy against toxin-producing bacteria. We report that the cell wall synthesis-inhibiting antibiotic bacitracin neutralizes bacterial toxins including those from C. difficile and B. anthracis by specifically inhibiting their transport subunits.
