What is it about?

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) cause major complications in influenza virus (IV) infected patients. van Krüchten et al. reveal a possible mechanism, which contributes to higher pathogenicity in super-infected individuals. S. aureus inhibits the IV-induced cellular apoptotic response and triggers an agr-dependent switch to necrosis correlating to enhanced cell damage.
