What is it about?

In Drosophila, fat body remodeling is an ecdysone-induced process. We have shown that the activated PVR is sufficient to induce fat body remodeling and fat mobilization. Removal of PVR does not prevent fat body remodeling, but causes ecdysone signaling up-regulated. We proposed a dual-secured mechanism that involves an ecdysone-induced fat body remodeling pathway and a reinforced PVR pathway. Ectopic expression of activated c-kit in fat body also results in a similar phenotype.

Why is it important?

Our findings show for the first time that :a) in Drosophila, activated PVR is sufficient to induce fat body remodeling and tissue remodeling is capable of being decoupled from their normally associated developmental stages. b) c-kit, the mouse homolog of PVR, may has function in lipid metabolism in mammals.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it is my first time to publish a research paper. This article makes me find it is interesting and exciting to do fundamental research.
