What is it about?

It considers where complaints about police action are located in three police station areas. The police force examined is the Irish national police force. The article explores whether more serious allegations, including force, are concentrated in any particular areas when measured by wealth. Past research has noted that poorer areas tend to be over-policed and under-protected. Does this show up in the location and types of allegations about police conduct?

Why is it important?

Almost all research to date focuses on the location of crime. One offshoot of this is where, and when to locate police. This article is one of the first articles to locate police misconduct (crimes and deviance).

Perspectives

A small contribution that looks to encourage readers to look beyond the location of public/visible crime to consider the location of possible state crime/misbehaviour.
