What is it about?

This paper was actually published in Physical Review E, 60(3), pgs. 3374-3379 (1999). We were able to show that variance minimization can be used to optimize accurate trial wavefunction for a relativistic one-electron atom and a one-electron diatomic.

Why is it important?

At least for the calculations we considered, variance minimization seems to avoid many of the problems that seem to more traditional relativistic calculations.
