What is it about?

This book is about verbal nouns, i.e. nouns related to verbs such as 'examination' related to 'to examine'. It adopts a descriptive approach and it provides methods and criteria for identifying these nouns which retain some verbal properties and for distinguishing them from nouns with concrete reference.

Why is it important?

The parameters used are important for a better understanding of the function of verbal nouns in Latin texts of various types (narrative texts and professional treatises) and for the presentation of these words in dictionaries. Verbal nouns play an important role in terminology in disciplines such as rhetoric, architecture, and law.

Perspectives

Verbal nouns used as terms in professional treatises require more attention and should be studied in a systematic manner. The presentation of these words in dictionaries requires adjustments.
