What is it about?
This book examines the impact of populism, especially in the US and UK, on trade policy. It traces the influence of populist movements on voting behavior, and the way it often combines with fears of immigration, social change and job anxiety in political strategies.

Why is it important?
President Trump's populist trade policies undermined long-standing rules of the World Trade Organization and created increased risk on trade-related investment markets. Similarly, the UK Brexit referendum severed the economic ties between Britain and the European Union, which reversed an important trade integration agreement. The book concludes with suggestions for restoring an open trading system by addressing divisive economic and social issues domestically.
