What is it about?
Counterfeit medical products remain a problem for supply chains. We discovered that in 2018, our hospital supply of rabies vaccine was infiltrated with counterfeit rabies vaccine amidst a global shortage. We describe our investigation and solutions to dealing with recalling patients for revaccination to ensure patient safety.

Why is it important?
Counterfeit medical products compromise patient and population safety since, if we are to believe estimates, around 10% of medical products circulating globally are counterfeit.
Perspectives
We thought it was critical for us to write about our experience with counterfeit vaccines because there is a dearth of literature on the subject and we need to be doing more to tackle this problem head on.
