What is it about?
Various structure-selective endonucleases, such as Mus81-Eme1/Mms4, Yen1/GEN1, Slx1-Slx4, and/or XPF-ERCC1 process recombination intermediates into crossovers and non-crossovers during meiosis in different species. Intriguingly, Human GEN1 can substitute for Mus81 in fission yeast meiosis. However, the frequency of crossover events is altered due to differing biochemical capabilities of Mus81-Eme1 and GEN1.
