Why is it important?
We need to address orofacial contractures earlier and with new and different approaches including intra oral stretching and low load prolonged stretches that focus on targeted facial muscles and structures. We can continue to impact change in chronic burns and prevent contractures in the acute setting by including and training the speech pathologist as a key member of the burn team.
