What is it about?

There are applications, where vibrating strings with variable lengths appear. As a first example, think of cranes.

Why is it important?

Typically, like in mining lifts, the strings are rather long and it is of paramount importance to control the vibrations that occur.

Perspectives

There are also systems with several coupled strings, also here mining elevators are a good example. The extension of the stabilization procedure to systems of this type is challenging!
