What is it about?

We explain our first experiences, surprises and confusions related to the practical application of the ESHRE-ESGE classification of Mullerian anomalies. We believe that diagnosis of uterine septum according to the ESHRE/ESGE criteria in females with low absolute internal fundal indentation (≤1.5 cm) should be considered carefully as an indication for surgery, and would be more applicable to clinical trials than routine practice.

Why is it important?

We describe the practical problems we face during the application of the ESHRE/ESGE classification of Mullerian anomalies using 3D US. The ESHRE/ESGE classification is the result of a consensus of experts and provides arbitrary criteria for recognition of uterine septum. The medical community should know the relevant facts relating to the practical application of the new classification and hear the authors answer before the criteria for diagnosis of septate uterus will be put into general use.
