What is it about?

The commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 2008 (‘Universal Declaration’) provided a catalyst for a revival of the idea of setting up an International Court of Human Rights. This idea had lain dormant since the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (‘the Human Rights Commission’) discussed it in fulfilment of its mandate to prepare an International Bill of Rights in the early days of the United Nations (UN) system. In 2010, two leading international human rights lawyers drafted a Statute (‘the Draft Statute’) for a World Court of Human Rights.
