What is it about?

Alec studied medicine at the University of Paris VII and came to cardiology almost by chance after he was handed a rotation in psychiatry based on the alphabetical order of surnames. He wasn’t keen to pursue the rotation, so he swapped with a friend who had been given cardiology and found the discipline much more to his liking.

Why is it important?

French interventionalist Alec Vahanian is best known for his expertise in valvular heart disease and percutaneous valve interventions

Perspectives

He is a firm believer in the ‘integrative approach’ which considers patient history, clinical data, visual examination and imaging as well as what the patient feels about their condition. This is refreshing and something all aspiring doctors would do well to note.
