Why is it important?
The 'catastrophic' case of Piero Anversa -the Harvard professor who claimed he had discovered cardiac stem cells which could regenerate the heart- has seen the retraction of over 30 academic papers and is far from complete. Here, Jonathan Epstein suggests how the scientific community should react (and recover from) to such shocking events.
Perspectives
Many individuals and institutions shy away from even talking about scientific misconduct for fear of being tainted by association. Johnathan Epstein is not one of those people. His timely approach and no-nonsense attitude to confronting this outrageous event is something we can all learn from.
