What is it about?

Harvard University Professor Piero Anversa claimed to have discovered stem cells that could regenerate dead heart muscle. He convinced many in the scientific community of his findings until he fell from grace in 2015. Despite having much of his work retracted, questions remain over his conduct and how he managed to maintain the deception for as long as he did.

Why is it important?

Scientific misconduct and fraud at this level is almost unheard of. Anversa's story is a cautionary tale which the scientific community should not forget.

Perspectives

The scope and scale of Piero Anversa's claims defies belief. The research community tend to run and distance themselves from this sort of fraud, which can taint careers and institutions by association for years after.
