What is it about?

After many years working as a senior physician-scientist, Ludwig Neyses accepted the role of Vice President of Research at the University of Luxembourg alongside a joint appointment as Professor of Medicine/Cardiology at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. The role in Luxembourg required a new focus on management skills with a wide remit which included establishing research priorities, building up the international research reputation of the University and managing funding.

Why is it important?

The University of Luxembourg is an up-and-coming institution with a high-quality international reputation. The new medical curriculum which was created by Ludwig Neyses, incorporates the best elements of UK, US and European systems. An independent evaluation of the University suggests it is fast becoming a high quality international institution.

Perspectives

As someone who has travelled widely and actively embraced foreign working environments and cultures, Neyses is an advocate for crossing geographical and linguistic barriers, but warns that it requires a strong constitution. His thoughts on language are particularly pertinent.
