Why is it important?
The implantable VAD is designed to treat patients with severe heart failure without the need for surgery. The catheter-based delivery and placement system draws on the latest methods and technologies to provide high levels of efficiency and stability.
Perspectives
Vegard Tuseth's decision to step down from his post as head of interventional cardiology at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway was an unusual one. Leaving the security of academia to develop a new ventricular assist device was fraught with risk, but his conviction has paid off. His journey from setting up the company to becoming its chairman in the space of two short years is remarkable and inspiring.
