What is it about?
Drug-eluting stents (DES) are used to treat patients having heart attacks, but it is not known if they can prevent heart attacks from occurring. Here, using advanced imaging, we show that DES can take away the inflammation in plaques in living subjects. This new finding strengthens the concept that DES could be an effective therapy to prevent inflamed, high-risk plaques from causing a heart attack.
