What is it about?

Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) provides with imaging and hemodynamic data for procedural guidance of trancatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) without the need for endotracheal intubation. Thus, ICE supports TAVI to be done under monitored anesthesia care (MAC) wityhout waiver of continuous intra-procedural echocardiograsphic viewing.

Why is it important?

It may improve safty of TAVI to be done under MAC.

Perspectives

Capabilities of ICE-guidance in TAVI have to be further evaluated by larger randomized trials. Results of smaller single center studies are availbale even now.
