What is it about?

Why is it important?
The work is particularly important for its assessment of the role of women in the emergence of expressionism in Germany, in particular as their activities relate to contemporary art in Paris. It argues that rather than being defined as precursors to expressionism in Germany, artists such as Paula Modersohn Becker should be seen as expressionists proper.
