Detecting delirium in older emergency department patients using serial assessments

What is it about?

The Ottawa 3DY is a simple tool that is fast to administer and requires no equipment. It helps detect cognitive dysfunction (including delirium). We conducted a study to determine if serial administration of the Ottawa 3DY results in improved delirium detection for older patients in the emergency department.

Why is it important?

Delirium is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately it is difficult to detect. Serial Ottawa 3DY testing can improve delirium detection for this vulnerable patient population.
