Why is it important?

It is a interdisciplinary collaboration among historians of science and other social scientists (Kirchhelle, Lipton and myself) and both basic and applied scientific researchers.

Perspectives

My contribution to this very interesting project was purely historical -- I provided the early history of bacteriophages, which was rooted in the very themes of surveillance that the article was mainly about.
