What is it about?

Laponite nano-clay was added into poly(vinylidene fluoride) to make a super toughened material for highly durable piezoelectric energy harvester.

Why is it important?

The fabricated supertoughened nanogenerator was highly durable and was able to operate consumer electronics even from human activities. In addition, the manufactured composite films possess superior energy density which is essential for capacitor fabrication. Thus, the nanogenerator could be used for charge storage and charge supplier simultaneously.

Perspectives

Toughness is essential for real life application of nanogenerator, because, in regular activities, low as well as large vibrations are generated. So, nanogenerator should not be brittle and toxic as generally observed with inorganic piezoelectric materials. Rather, it should be flexible and simultaneously highly durable, as we have achieved with laponite nano-clay doped PVDF composite.
