Why is it important?

It is known that unusual breath odor is one indicator of human health due to volatile biomarker compounds, including ketones that are expelled from the lungs. Thus, breath analysis can provide a noninvasive approach to monitoring patient health. However, breath analysis involves detection of molecules at low concentrations, often making it more difficult than more invasive blood or urine analyses. Our new technology has a great potential to address this problem.
