What is it about?
In this work, CoFe2O4 spinel nano-ferrite was synthesized through the citrate gel auto-combustion process and subsequently sintered for 5h at 500 °C. X-ray diffraction pattern analysis was used to identify the material phase and crystallite size of the synthesized nano materials. SEM and EDS analysis were used to examine the surface morphology and elemental composition. The FTIR spectrum, indicating the nature of M-O stretching vibrations associated with the tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) lattice sites, further confirmed the formation of the spinel phase. The optical properties were investigated using UV-Visible spectroscopy, and the optical band gap was determined to confirm the material’s semiconducting behaviour. Magnetic characteristics, including coercivity and saturation magnetization, were evaluated from room-temperature hysteresis loops. Visible-light- driven photocatalytic degradation of acid red (AR) and methylene blue (MB) was conducted to assess the photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalyst. The material showed significant pollutant removal efficiency, indicating its potential for environmental remediation applications.
