Synchronization of quantum dipoles
What is it about?
Synchronizing different wall clocks requires some kind of interaction between the clocks in order to correct natural dephasing and preserve time synchronization over long periods of time. In quantum mechanics, we can build clocks using oscillating transition dipoles that interact with each other by exchanging photons. We show that it is possible to synchronize such quantum clocks under conditions of strong incoherent driving and dissipation. Surprisingly, the clocks can sustain a large degree of quantum correlations when synchronized.
