What is it about?

This article is about determining the feasibility of using piezoresistive carbon nanotube yarns to build strain gauges that can have tailorable and higher gauge factors than metallic foil strain gauges. This feasibility is explored using the finite element analysis. Upcoming articles will describe the experimental response of these strain gauges and their calibration.

Why is it important?

Strain gauges consisting of piezoresistive carbon nanotube yarn may provide a versatile and robust technique of measuring strain on the surface of structures or inside them.

Perspectives

As the developer of this concept, the students in my research group and I look forward to unveiling more details about theses strain gauges in the future.
