What is it about?
Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a new quasi-3D imaging modality with the potential to improve the sensitivity and specificity of mammography. Studies to date indicated potential benefits of DBT for mass detection, but had mixed results for microcalcifications. Our work presents a novel approach to computer-aided detection (CAD) of microcalcification clusters in DBT, which is represented by a planar projection to a single plane.

Why is it important?
The proposed CAD system achieves a significant improvement in comparison to detection in DBT volume.
