What is it about?

The most exciting future observation in cosmology will feature a monitoring of the cosmic expansion in real time, unlike anything that has ever been attempted before. This campaign will answer the simple question of whether the cosmic expansion is accelerating or not. A `no' answer would provide a resolution of several long-standing problems and inconsistencies in our current cosmological models. For example, it would obviate the need for a cosmological constant and render inflation completely redundant.

Why is it important?

A clear determination of whether or not the Universe is accelerating would resolve many long-standing problems and inconsistencies with our current theoretical models.

Perspectives

These experiments will take several decades to complete, but their impact on Physics and Astronomy should be immeasurable. Nothing like them has ever been attempted before.
