What is it about?

The gun tackle is often neglected in the introductory courses of classical mechanics. After a short reconsideration of this machine, its generalization is proposed, analyzed both from the dynamic point of view and from the static one. The general gun tackle shows a non trivial behavior and a mathematical model is missing in physics handbooks. In this work a realistic description of the machine is obtained and the conditions of its equilibrium are determined. The mathematical model developed is compared with experimental data obtained in a teaching laboratory and briefly discussed.
