What is it about?

This study (reports the results of interviews with researchers in different European countries) shows that academic reputation is still very biased toward research and in that towards number of published peer-reviewed journal articles. However, with the rise of reputation platforms such as ResearchGate and the new scholarly environment (social media, web 2.0 etc) things show sign of change. Younger researchers might be the drivers of change.

Why is it important?

The study shows the current trend of building, showcasing and measuring academic reputation and shows the gap that both scholars and their employers should try to fill. Academic reputation measures should be more inclusive and cover more activities such as teaching which has been greatly ignored so far.
