What is it about?

Responsible (Research and) Innovation (R(R)I) literature suffers from a lack of attention towards conditions that make it difficult or perhaps impossible to innovate responsibly. This paper identifies a number of these conditions, and concludes that the option not to innovate should sometimes be taken more seriously, because there are situations in which that may be more responsible than trying to make the innovation process/outcome responsible. .

Why is it important?

R(R)I was conceived to improve innovation processes and innovation outcomes. However, by doing so, it was unable to challenge the very notion of innovation. This paper sets out a first step towards doing do.
