What is it about?

This was to our understanding the first study that assessed utilization of NHIS services in Kano. It has supported earlier studies to say that there is increased use of accredited clinics / hospitals with the advent of NHIS. However, it also showed that prolonged patient waiting time and the acute infectious disease burden are challenges that should be envisaged by clinic managers

Managers of NHIS accredited hospitals may need to proactively prepare for these challenges as scheme is scaled up nationwide.

Perspectives

This study has stimulated the need for further research into the determinants of prolonged patient waiting times and satisfaction of enrolees with services obtained at various NHIS accredited facilities.
