What is it about?

Based on conversations between 4 puppetry practitioners who use the Feldenkrais Method of somatic education in their performance and training work, this article considers the benefits of Feldenkrais to the puppetry practitioner to help pain management, fluidity and co-ordination. It also considers the power of Feldenkrais and puppetry practiced together in ecological terms.

Why is it important?

While Feldenkrais is relatively well known and used in dance, music and acting training contexts, it is unusual for it to be considered specifically in relation to puppetry. Puppetry is a strenuous physical profession demanding expanded awareness of self and space; Feldenkrais is a great tool to address its particularities.

Perspectives

This article is from an 'inside' point of view. I am both a puppetry and a Feldenkrais practitioner, not an academic looking in.i
