Why is it important?

This papers helps to fills the gap of research about running from social science perspectives, one of the most popular practices undertaken by people from across society. Academically, it brings together a diversity of work written about running and sets some ways forward for the research to advance. Finally, the paper also recognises the huge potential running has for a range of arenas in society but argues that more is needed to be understood about the practice if these are to be more effectively encouraged. Most notably, these centre on the dual and sometimes negative meanings held about running, and how runners fit into the public spaces.
