What is it about?

This article analyzes the main motivations behind manned interstellar exploration. There is a wide range of justifications for manned interstellar exploration. The discovery of habitable planets within 5 to 15 light years from Earth and the possibility that Earth will no longer define the limit of growth constitute stronger motivations.

Why is it important?

This article support the search for habitable planets within 5 to 15 light years from Earth, which can be reached with robotic probes based on current technolgy. A robotic mission should be organized to verify the information got by astronomical observations and to get those that astronomy can not give us, in particular a magnetic field which, as on Earth, shield the planet from cosmic radiation.
