What is it about?

We compare the college admissions success of high school students who did and did not take music courses, to determine whether there is an advantage or disadvantage to choosing music over other options.

Why is it important?

For the national cohort we examined, we find no advantage or disadvantage to taking music. In other words, music students were admitted to colleges of the same prestige and at the same rates as their non-music peers. Since there is no disadvantage to taking music in high school, student should *not* be dissuaded from pursuing music coursework to "improve their college resumes."
