What is it about?

This paper looks at the visual style, narrative structure, and ideology of the first four seasons Glee and argues that the show is governed by what we call a "mash-up aesthetic." We demonstrate that Glee's blending of disparate elements facilitated the show's success with its primary teen demographic and underlies the series' progressive politics regarding gender and sexuality.
