Why is it important?

Many studies have focused on poverty among Malaysian Indians in the rural setting i.e. estates but this paper explores the issue of urban poverty.

Perspectives

After independence many Indians who used to live mainly in the estate had to relocate to urban area or semi-urban area. The breaking down of the community and social support which existed in the estate contributed to urban poverty among Malaysian Indians.
