Why is it important?

Despite school’s policy that forbade the use of native language teachers, the majority of teachers claimed that they used students' mother tongue for different purposes. On the other hand, teachers who favored the only-English policy expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the other teachers use L1 in their practice

Perspectives

The findings underscores the need for a revision in language policies of prep schools that endorse an exclusive use of English in language classes where students’ needs, motivation, proficiency levels, learning objectives, as well as classroom conditions vary.
