What is it about?

“Interdependent Territorial Systems” are a proposal of spatial units that emerged from a study on the application of EU cohesion policy in Italy. These spatial units may serve to set a more place-based approach of EU cohesion policy.

This essay shows that more effective cohesion policy in the EU should refer to spatial units that combine territorial features and good governance opportunities.

I hope this article helps convincing European planners and policy makers that EU cohesion policy needs specific territorial governance, which should be capable to interact with established spatial planning systems.
