What is it about?

It is possible to use the cashew wood flour to make new composites with funcional properties by chem treating it with the cashew nut shell liquid. This way we can turn the flour hidriphobic, and add on its surface reactive sites we may use further to introduce new funcionalities.

Why is it important?

Composites with new chemical and/or phisical properties can replace traditional materials in many ways. Improving their performance or reducing costs. Besides adding value to agricultural residues run for improve small farmers revenue, and helps the enviroment, by increasing the use of renewable resources.

Perspectives

This work discovered a methodology to introduce new funcionalities to composites, and thus several works may be focus on this methodology testing the introduction of different chemical groups, with different properties.
