State Archives in New South Wales have always lacked the financial support necessary carry out its legislative functions. Successive governments have failed to redress this situation.

Funding for archives has always been a difficult issue and archives are often at the lower end of the scale in terms of priorities. This applies to all levels of government

I wrote this when I was Director, State Records New South Wales. I felt the struggle for funding and difficulties faced by the archives and records management authority was unknown and undocumented.
