The present study characterizes the natural diet of A. longirostri, analyses the stomach contents, and assesses possible variations in the diet as a function of seasonality, size and sex of the animals
Perspectives
The diversity of food items in the diet of A. longirostri suggests that this species is omnivorous and opportunistic, which may be a common characteristic for aeglids. These data also indicate that aeglids play an important role in nutrient recycling in the watercourses where they are found, actively consuming the leaves falling from the riparian vegetation
