What is it about?

Everyone trains you to squat, don’t they? Well just in case you knees or back are stuffed.. there is now evidence to suggest working your hips can lead to less effort and greater pushing success than squatting.

Why is it important?

When training nurses I noted that pushing techniques suffered the dogma of squat training. My ‘rockback’ push technique was observed to be: gentler for cancer patients; less effort for some and many nurses with back pain reported ‘rockback’ use when starting to push hoists/slide sheets resulted in less pain. We were curious why? .. SO this research explored the differences kinematically and the effort to slide a ‘load’ using the ‘rockback’ in a (simulated) laboratory situation.
