What is it about?

An Arts Libraries Association needed a new website, and decided to embrace Web 2.0 in its design. The re-design project was offered as a real-world learning opportunity to final year interaction design students at Queensland University of Technology. Three student teams worked on the project, with one of the solutions being implemented. The students used interactive and collaborative online tools in the planning, development and communication tasks. The Association used similar collaborative online tools [Web 2.0 tools] to manage the project and communicate with the membership and other stakeholders. In this way, the project was an authentic learning experience for students, and embodied the Web 2.0 ethos that the Association wished to embed into its web presence.

Why is it important?

Web 2.0 technology is ubiquitous in the delivery of library services, and it was important for the Association to modernize its web presence in response. The impact of online collaboration and planning tools, and open source solutions, offered new ways of solving problems which both the students and the Association took advantage off in order to reach their goals.
