What is it about?

Bidding for and winning a major event such as the Olympic Games or the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) can generate significant benefits for the host city. But most event bids actually fail. This is the first study of the effects of a failed ECOC bid, which shows that these can also generate significant benefits.

Why is it important?

This paper is important as one of the first studies of the effects of a failed event bid.
