What is it about?
The role of cytokines in biologic- small molecule drugs has been documented. Given, multi-factorial and complex nature of drug-drug interactions mechanics, the biologics may exert pro- or anti-inflammatory effect, which may in turn affect the drug metabolism .

Why is it important?
Patients with infectious/inflammatory diseases undergoing combined biologic/small molecule treatment can have complex changes in drug metabolism due effects of both disease and treatment.
Perspectives
Studies aimed at understanding the mechanism by which biologics effect the drug metabolizing enzymes during inflammation/infection are clinically important.
