What is it about?
This article conducted statistical analyses on the formation of El Niño and Southern Oscillation (ENSO) from several angles. We have established a new theory for ENSO formation that can explain the problems the current conceptual ENSO models left.

Why is it important?
ENSO has always been the focus of the public attention to the meteorological / climatological study since it is undoubtedly accounted as one of the most valuable signals in climate prediction. This study has provided a new way that has great potential to predict ENSO more accurately than before.
Perspectives
